average population density in 2000 was 16 persons per
sq km (41 per sq mi). However, the population is not
evenly distributed. About five-sixths of all
Coloradoans live in a narrow belt that extends for
about 300 km (about 200 mi) along the eastern foot of
the Rocky Mountains and includes Denver, Colorado
